Laura Parry, LCSW, PMH-C, clinical director

Laura is a licensed clinical social worker practicing since 2009, and clinical director of Roots & Branches Wellness. Laura founded Roots & Branches because she wants to help people practice self-compassion and understand that there is no shame in whatever you are struggling with. She seeks to help others find their voice and feel empowered to make changes in their lives by understanding the past. Laura is passionate about helping expecting parents understand mental health during the pregnancy and postpartum phases of their lives and has made this a core pillar of our practice.

Laura has also created a curriculum for and hosted a therapy group called “Faith Deconstruction through an IFS Lens.” Part of her mission is to support those who find themselves in a transition of faith. Using research-backed theories like Internal Family Systems (IFS) she seeks to support those who struggle with shame or the painful and often misunderstood experience that comes with transitioning faith.

Sometimes our society fails to support us and many times depression and anxiety are not just “you” things but systemic problems. Laura understands that these systems affect our individual lives. She promotes social justice in and out of the therapy room.

Laura graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from Brigham Young University and continued to get her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah. Her training includes Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Gottman theory, PMH-C (certified in perinatal mental health), CYP-500 (clinical yoga practitioner, 500 hours) which teaches how to incorporate yoga and breath into therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed, and Lifespan Integration.

Outside of the office, Laura participates in reading loads of books, writing poetry, and playing the piano. She enjoys moving her body by practicing yoga, traveling, and hiking with her husband and three children.

Laura wants others to know that therapy is awesome! She has sat on the other side of the couch and found it incredibly valuable and helpful. She appreciates the bravery of her clients for showing up for themselves and is honored to witness those that work through their shame and trauma by gaining new understanding and making lasting changes to their lives. Human relationships are crucial for well-being and she loves helping clients see how they can make their relationships more fulfilling. She wants potential clients to understand that there are no “bad parts” of themselves, their lives, or their experiences–just parts that need understanding and compassion.
